Phase II

Reactive Balance

Starting from three simple notions; mass, distance and time, elementary physics provides an obvious benefit for those looking for accuracy and integrity or homeostasis in their movement.

In particular:

- Dealing with gravity, or fall and recovery phenomena

- The interrelated balance of our body masses, the notion of joint alignment and the question of the center of gravity

- The strategic implementation of structuring forces that we produce in this or that context

- The effects of inertia on the sequentiality of movement

- The resistance of the materials that constitute us and the responses of our body to deformation

- The elastic functions of our tissues, our ability to bounce freely

- Muscular contractions, generating forces of movement

- The phenomenology of gravitational accelerations, and the displacement of kinetic energy through the body

- Leverages, pendulums and other pendulum movements

- The rhythms, internal and external, in relation to the distances in each step

In this session, I propose a journey, to rediscover the human activity of "moving" or "dancing" through the powerful lens of elementary physics. Starting with simple applications, such as manipulating everyday objects or in partnership, we will have the opportunity to observe how these phenomena manifest, to wonder at the body’s incredible ingenuity, then challenge it to approach a higher demand of certain technical virtuosity... the art of dancing here on earth.

Jerome d'Orso

JEROME d'ORSO

Besides holding diplomas in biology and psychology, Jerome has been a professional performing artist since 2001. His artistic interest lies in three areas: the traditional Vietnamese martial arts of the Sa Long Cuong School, as taught by Luong Truong My, circus arts, strongly influenced by Jonathon Sutton's acrobatic theater; and the movement analysis system developed by Frey Faust, "The Axis Syllabus", for which he holds the teacher's certification.

In 2001 he co-founded the collective Les Arts Felus, with whom he created several performances for the theater and the street

He also worked alternately as a dancer, coach, and rehearsal director for several other companies: Thierry Thieu Niang, Hélène Cathala, Félicette Chazerand, Panier Piano, Elsa Rauch, Yann Lheureux and the Ornic’art collective.

He has always felt that his study and practice as an artist were synonymous with the pedagogical transmission of what he was learning, and today, besides offering open workshops, he teaches in hospitals, prisons and grade schools, and manages and staffs his own circus school in France.

He has never lost his passion for questing the arial space defined by a 12mm cable under tension, and for the transposition of today's dance into this medium.
